Dell Mini Laptop Product Review

Mini Laptops?

When my kids wanted a laptop, I tried to think of the best possible solution for my budget. With two older children, the idea was to find two laptops that were affordable and functional for their needs. The Dell Mini laptop was the first place I searched and found them affordable and functional. But, I had little idea how little the Dell Mini Laptop truly was.

Maybe I did not read the finest print, but when the box arrived I thought surely there was a mistake. The Dell Mini Laptop is smaller than many portable DVD players and that makes for some difficult maneuvering on the keyboard.

The keys are shrunken to half the size or less of a traditional keyboard on the Dell Mini Laptop and the mouse pad is not much bigger. For an adult - these keyboards are nearly too small to function in every day typing, but for a kid, the keys are just perfect.

Functionality-wise, the Dell Mini Laptop is flawless. There are two USB ports and the computers can be formatted with Windows XP in most cases. There is very little hard drive on the standard model, but with the huge popularity of Web 2.0 programs like Google Docs - there is no need to save the written documents on the hard drive itself.

The Dell Mini Laptop connects to the Internet via an unsecured wireless network with ease thanks to the included internal mini wireless card.

Who Can Use the Dell Mini Laptop?

Both adults and children can use the Dell Mini Laptop. The adult will have to learn the keyboard and can expect to spend the majority of the time online using the backspace key. The children - however - are perfectly sized to use the mini keys and fly through their online experience.

The Dell Mini Laptop is a great invention for children - the use for an adult is left up in the air at this time with the standard on computer keyboard and the Windows XP operating system. For the adult - an external keyboard and an external mouse brings this computer back into play. The only trouble is the lack of additional USB ports to accommodate other features like printing.

The Dell Mini Laptop is just that - mini. With a bit of time and patience, however, the user can take advantage of the lower price tag and the miniature fun.
