New Shape? Hah!

May 23rd 2007 01:55
I was walking through the cereal aisle at the grocery store the other day and noticed a box of Trix cereal. A small wave of joy rushed over me when I saw the small round puff balls were back! “Look Amy! Puff balls!” Why was I so excited? Manufacturers are always messing up a good thing, especially when it comes to food. I can rant for about a half-hour straight about stuff that used to be better, back when I was a kid.

In the early ‘80s, Trix were round puff balls. They only had three colors (orange, yellow, and purple I think). Then they went to hard little fruit shapes that cut the shit out of the roof of your mouth. I guess they finally figured out the shapes suck and went back to the puff balls. I bet they thought I wouldn’t remember when they advertised the “new” shape on the box.

Lucky Charms is another one. Pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, green clovers, blue diamonds, and purple horseshoe marbits (marshmallow bits) is what I grew up with. Those are charms, not red balloons, green hats, pots of gold, and whatever the hell else they have stuffed in there now.

Oh, and don’t get me started on Fruit Roll-ups. I don’t want little punch out shapes, and multiple colors, and made up fruit flavors. Give me a basic peach or cherry Fruit Roll-up and I will be happy. What’s that? You can’t find one? No kidding. Maybe General Mills should have an ad campaign for that advertising “New normal flavors!” I’ll probably be the only one that knows they aren’t new.

I loved it all... I used to eat all the cereal pieces of Lucky Charms until I had nothing but marshmallows left, then eat them all up in one insanely sugary gulp.

Hah. I used to do the same. Get rid of all the crappy brown things and savour the marshmallows. Sometimes I even just picked the marbits out of the box. I bet that drove my mom crazy!

I guess I'm older than you guys--all Lucky Charms had when I was a kid were pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars and green clovers. That line was part of the commercial.

And yeah, I did the same as you guys! Saved the charms for last, LOL.

-I wonder if Cap'n Crunch still cuts the hell out of the roof of your mouth?

Why would capn crunch of the old Trix shapes cut the roof of your mouth? What do you do, chew with the roof of your mouth?
