Telemarketers, WTF?

May 23rd 2007 21:50
I'm not even making this up. Last year I got a call from an AT&T representative asking me to switch to their long distance or something like that. I didn't let him finish, but I politely said "No thank you, I'm not interested." Even in saying that, I think I was more polite than most people who get these types of calls.

He kept on going, rambling about this and that. Once again I stated I wasn't interested. As a side note, the only reason I picked up the call is because for the two weeks prior, at the same time every day, the phone would ring with the same number on the caller ID. I figured it must be important to call me every day for two weeks (not really).

So after I said I wasn't interested for the 2nd time and he kept going I said "Look buddy, you have called at the same time every day for two weeks. I told you I wasn't interested. We're done." I might have thrown a "Fuck" in there, but I'm not sure.

You know what this guy said? "Well, maybe if you just bought our product I wouldn't call so much!" I bolded that for a reason. Just to make sure you read it correctly.

I was speechless. What a son of a bitch! I never did get a call again, but you can bet your ass if I ever get a call from AT&T again I hang the hell up, not to mention never purchase anything knowingly from them.

Oh my god, I can't believe that he said that!! Nice sales tactic.

I hate being rude to telemarketers, because I know they're just doing a job. But honestly, some of them being it on themselves.

My best friend has a great method of dealing with those AT&T telemarketers: he adopts a cranky old guy voice and out-annoys them.

"Who's this? Who? AT&T? Is that the phone company? You guys need to fix my internet. I can't get the internet. I'm paying good money for the internet and I can't get it. What time are you coming here to fix it? What? No, I need you to come here and fix the internet..."

Works every time, and is fun too.

I'll have to try that method sometime. I usually just don't answer the phone. Anyone who knows me already knows just to call my cell. And if it's a number I don't know, they can leave a message. If I don't get a message, well, I guess it wasn't that important.
